The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Garland – serving the Garland Community will host its 26th Freedom Fund brunch and silent auction Saturday, Sept. 17 at 9 a.m. at the Hyatt Place, 5101 North President George Bush Highway in Garland.
This year’s theme is “Our Lives Matter, Our Votes Count.” Keynote speaker will be Aubrey C. Hooper – NAACP National Board Member. The master of ceremonies will be Patrick E. Alcom – America’s eXtreme Motivator
A NAACP Garland Youth Council member will be awarded a scholarship and the GISD highest African American scholars will be recognized from each of the seven high schools.
The following adults will also receive awards:
- Educator of the Year – Michael Bland
- Educator of the Year– Tyisha Nelson
- Community Service – Garland Model Mission
- Bridge Builder of the Year – Brian Funderburk, city manager – city of Rowlett
