Theft suspects arrested after pursuit

Thursday, Oct. 11, at approximately 2:45 p.m., Garland police were dispatched to the Kohl’s Department Store located in the 3300 block of North George Bush Highway in reference to two subjects who were in the process of committing a theft.  Store employees identified the two subjects by a bulletin that had been sent internally from other Kohl’s locations where the same two subjects had stolen several thousand dollars in merchandise.

GPD was notified by Kohl’s that one subject was sitting in a grey Ford F150 outside the store which matched the same vehicle from previously reported thefts in other cities.  Responding officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver fled leading to a chase that entered George Bush Highway with the driver going the wrong direction. theft

Garland police did not pursue the driver going the wrong direction and the chase was terminated.  Texas DPS air unit arrived and continued to follow the suspect who entered the city of Rowlett and Rockwall County.  Both the Rowlett Police Department and Rockwall County sheriff’s office continued the pursuit which ended at Broadway and I30 where the driver exited the vehicle and ran on foot across the westbound lanes of I30 and into the eastbound lanes where he was taken into custody by a Rockwall Country sheriff’s deputy.

The driver has been identified as 38-year-old Clinton Tyron Lang Jr. and was charged with Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, Theft $750-$2500 and two felony theft warrants out of the Dallas County sheriff’s office.   The second suspect, who was captured near the store, has been identified as 49-year-old Jimmy Orlando Wheeler and will be charged with Theft – two or more previous convictions less than $2500.
