Owls defeat Raiders
The Garland Owls got a 19-9 win over the North Garland Raiders Friday, Oct. 29 at Garland’s Williams Stadium.
The Owls scored a touchdown when quarterback Joshua Brown completed a pass to Josh Thompson at the beginning of the game. John Anthony Person then scored on a 45-yard interception return in the second quarter.
Jose Gutierrez got a field goal in the second quarter to bring the score to 7-3 at halftime.
Gutierrez kicked two more field goals in the third quarter and Joshua Chavez got one for the Owls to bring the score to 16-9 at the end of the third quarter.
The Owls scored another field goal in the fourth to bring the final score to 19-9.
SHS Mustangs get win over NFHS Rangers
The Sachse Mustangs (9-0, 5-0) got 28-0 win over the Naaman Forest Rangers (5-4, 3-2) Friday, Oct. 28 at Homer B. Johnson Stadium.
Christian Cole scored first on a 5-yard run in the first quarter. The remainder of the scores came in the second quarter when Zach Foster, Kelon Wilson and Drue Jackson scored on 1-, 11- and -75-yard Jalen Mayden passes.
Mayden was 22-27 for 333 yards on the game. Jackson caught three passes for 129 yards.
The Sachse HS coaching staff named Zachary Foster Offensive MVP of the game and Cedric Johnson Defensive MVP of the game.
The Rangers were unable to score against the Mustangs’ defense.
Rowlett Eagles win in OT
The Rowlett HS squeaked by the Lakeview Centennial HS in overtime to get a 63-62 win Thursday, Oct. 27 at Homer B. Johnson Stadium.
The Eagles started the scoring on the opening kickoff with an 83-yard return by Cameron Vitosh.
Dylan Watts and LeDarius Dickens also scored for the Eagles in the first quarter on 17- and 14-yard passes from quarterback Preston Weeks. Weeks scored a rushing TD in the second quarter and Kobe Morrow also scored a TD on a 24-yard rush in the second quarter.
The Patriots also had a big first half as Allen Copeland scored twice in the third on a 6-yard pass reception from Kamron Fields and on a 4-yard TD run. Shamond Green scored on a 23-yard pass from Fields in the first quarter as well.
LCHS continued to answer the E
agles score for score in the second quarter as Greenwood got a TD on a 56-yard Fields pass and Copeland scored again on a 15-yard rush.
The score at the end of the first half was tied 35-35.
Weeks brought the score to Eagles-42 – Patriots-35 on a 5-yard run in the third quarter but LCHS matched them on a 33-yard Copeland run and then went ahead by a TD when Greenwood caught a 13-yarder from Fields.
The score was soon tied at 49-49 early in the fourth quarter when Dickens caught a 47-yard pass from Weeks. Kobe Moore also scored in the fourth to give the Eagles a short term lead but the Patriots answered three minutes later when Fields scored a rushing TD to tie the score at 56-56.
LCHS scored first in overtime on a 31-yard pass from Fields to Calen Mayfield but their attempted at a two-point conversion failed and the score was LCHS-62 – RHS-56.
Rowlett then scored the winning TD and extra point to bring the final score to Rowlett-63 – Lakeview-62.
Eagles’ quarterback Weeks finished the game at 15-29 for 183 yards. Dickens was the top receiver with five catches for 98 yards. Morrow rushed 25 times for 201 yards. Weeks carried the ball 25 times for 126 yards.
The Patriots’ quarterback Fields was 28-34 with 392 yards on the night. Greenwood had 11 catches for 225 yards. Copeland carried the ball 16 times for 91 rushing yards.
