Approximately 350 students had lots of fun while they showcased their athletic abilities at the annual Garland ISD Elementary and Secondary Special Olympics Track and Field Meet. This is the third Special Olympics event of 2017-18, following bowling and basketball competitions earlier this year.
“Today, I stand before you not only as your superintendent, but also as a proud dad,” said Superintendent Ricardo López. “My daughter, Lauren, is competing. Let’s have a fun and great day.”
Athletes from nearly 40 campuses enjoyed the friendly competition, which included relays, ball and javelin throws, long jumps, slaloms and more. Throughout the day, students received medals and ribbons for their performance results. North Garland High School’s wood shop and Garland ISD’s carpenter shop were also awarded. Both received special recognition for handcrafting event signs and props.
