Texans Can Academy – Garland Can is providing resources to expose their students to upcoming employment opportunities offered after their senior students’ graduation ceremony in this month. The school’s administrators recently arranged a meeting for 10 senior students with Dallas Area Rapid Transit officials at their Akard Station headquarters to receive a sneak peak of upcoming changes to the commuter rail system and to discuss future employment opportunities with the local transportation mogul.
DART offers transportation around Dallas, Texas and 12 surrounding cities in North Texas with modern public transit services. The DART Light Rail, Trinity Railway Express commuter rail, bus services and paratransit services offer transportation to more than 220,00 individuals per day across a 700-square-mile service area. Local and express bus routes serve Addison, Carrollton, Cockrell Hill, Dallas, Farmers Branch, Garland, Glenn Heights, Highland Park, Irving, Richardson, Rowlett, Plano and University Park. The DART Rail also connects North Texas commuters to the world via the DFW Airport Station and Inwood/Lovefield Station.
“Our students have gained a wonderful learning experience by visiting with DART,” said Dr. Daniel Johnson, principal of Texans Can Academy – Garland Can. “It’s important to us that we are able to introduce our students to opportunities after graduation and familiarize them with their surrounding communities.”
DART officials described each department of transportation with the students, including hourly positions, salaried positions, DART police, maintenance and transportation. Individuals from each department shared their stories of the successful programs implemented in their branch, the future of the rail system and more. Along with college readiness and application guidance, Texans Can Academies dedicates staff resources to provide help to their graduating students who want to enter the workforce with resume writing, job interview skills, business etiquette and more.
