The Ambassadors for Community Health – Auxiliary at St. David’s Medical Center (formerly known as St. David’s Medical Center Healthcare Volunteers) has recognized 20 university students across the country with a total of $122,000 in scholarships funded by proceeds from the nonprofit Atrium Gift Shop at St. David’s Medical Center in Central Austin.
The Ambassadors for Community Health – Auxiliary at St. David’s Medical Center announced the recipients – who are working toward a degree in the field of healthcare – based on several criteria. The scholarship committee evaluated applicants on financial need, grades, references and an essay. Finalists also participated in interviews.
Garland ISD graduate Jeff (George) Hebel, who is a physical therapy student at Texas State University was one of the recipients.
The scholarship committee provided scholarship awards of $6,000 to 20 students, and the top candidate, Sai-Han Yu, received the Deborah Albers Scholarship ($8,000). The Deborah Albers Scholarship was established to honor the late president of the Auxiliary at St. David’s Medical Center.
