Just after 10:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 9, the Garland Police Department responded to a gunshot disturbance at a residence in the 3700 block of Hawaii Drive.
When police officers arrived, they observed an unidentified male subject in the front yard of the residence who appeared to have been shot. Garland Fire Department paramedics responded.
Another male subject, later identified as 23-year-old Quan Tran, was at the location and detained by police officers.
It is believed that the unidentified male subject arrived at the home in an attempt to rob Tran and his girlfriend. Detectives determined that Tran and his girlfriend were in front of the residence waiting to purchase a camera that was being sold online by an unknown subject.
While they were outside the unidentified male approached them with a gun demanding money. The unidentified male began assaulting Tran, threatening to shoot him and his girlfriend. Tran produced a handgun and shot the robbery suspect.
The unidentified male subject died at the scene. Detectives are working with the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office in order to identify this subject.
This is an ongoing investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
