High school football recap: Week 8

The eighth week of the high school football season ended with wins for the Naaman Forest Rangers, Sachse Mustangs, North Garland Raiders and Rowlett Eagles.

 

Naaman Forest Rangers get OT win over Wylie Pirates

 

The Naaman Forest Rangers (3-5, 3-2) defeated the Wylie Pirates (3-5, 3-2) in OT Thursday, Oct. 25 at Williams Stadium. The final score was 24-17. The Rangers’ first score was in the second quarter when Lemuel Adams rushed 35 yards for a touchdown. Kyrie Ward also scored in the second on a 4-yard run. Francisco Castillo added a 22-yard field goal to bring the Rangers’ lead to 17-7, but the Pirates fought back to tie it up with a minute left in the fourth quarter.

 

Quarterback Palmer Campbell connected with Adams on a 25-yard pass on the first play of overtime to wrap up the win. Campbell ended the game at 6-14 with 128 yards.

 

Mustangs defeat Patriots

 

The Sachse Mustangs (5-3, 5-0) got a 49-38 win over the Lakeview Centennial Patriots (4-3, 2-3) Thursday, Oct. 25 at Homer B. Johnson Stadium. The Patriots held the lead for most of the game until the fourth quarter when the Mustangs overcame a 10-point deficit for the win.

 

Derrick Rose scored first for the Mustangs in the first quarter on a 51-yard run and Myles Rose added a TD on a 12-yard run.

 

The Patriots answered with three first quarter scores. The first was on a 50-yard pass from Jermaine Johnson to Isaiah Askew; the second was an 8-yard TD run by Camar Wheaton. Then Jason Sauceda added a 2-yard field goal to give LCHS a 17-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. They added to their lead on a 62-yard TD pass from Johnson to Zikamein West in the second quarter and the Mustangs scored when Xavier Foreman took the ball in on a 1-yard run. The score at halftime was 24-22.

 

Johnson scored another Patriots’ touchdown in the third and the Mustangs answered with a TD on a 35-yard run by Torey Washington to end the third quarter at 31-Patriots, 28-Mustangs.

 

Wheaton scored for the Patriots again in the fourth quarter when he took the ball into the end zone on a 3-yard run to bring the Patriots’ lead to 38-28. But it was all Mustangs for the rest of the fourth quarter with Cameron Cromer scoring on an 11-yard pass from Forman, KJ Williams getting a TD on a 29-yard run and a Braylen Brooks 46-yard interception return.

The Patriots put together some impressive yard totals against the Mustangs. Johnson completed 14 passes for 229 yards; Wheaton carried the ball 21 times for 123 yards; and West caught six passes for 113 yards.

 

Eagles defeat Owls

 

Rowlett HS (6-1, 4-1) got a 52-22 win over Garland HS (1-7, 1-4) Friday, Oct. 26 at Homer B. Johnson Stadium. The Eagles’ Antonio Hull caught Chase Toupal passes for the first three scores of the game. The first was a 17-yard throw, the next a 53-yarder and the next was a 13-yarder.

 

In the second quarter, Jerry Evans caught a 15-yard Toupal pass for a TD and Chauncey Amos scored on an 18-yard Toupal throw. Adams scored again on a 2-yard run in the third. In the fourth Luis Reyna added a 37-yard field goal and Jeremiah Tarwo caught a 12-yard Alex Routt pass for a touchdown.

 

Toupal ended the game at 18-30 for 317 yards. Hull caught six passes for 110 yards. Amos carried the ball 10 times for 138 yards.

 

Alonzo Fennel scored for the Owls on a 35-yard Jacob Herrera pass and Jabari Ellis took the ball in on a 2-point conversion in the second quarter. In the fourth quarter Devonte Thompson scored for the Owls on a 69-yard run and

Montana Miller took the ball in on a 1-yard run.

 

NGHS defeats SGHS

 

The North Garland Raiders (5-3, 2-3) defeated the South Garland Colonels (2-6, 0-5) by a score of 37-7 Friday, Oct. 26 at Williams Stadium. The Raiders held the Colonels scoreless until the fourth quarter when Dayvaun Gilmore scored on a 74-yard kickoff return.

 

The Raiders’ Duke Parker scored first on a 27-yard pass from QB Peyton Farrington. Trey Taylor scored three NGHS touchdowns on 1-, 36 and 12-yard runs. Sabron Woods got a touchdown on a 7-yard run. Van Chawn added a 22-yard field goal.

 

Farrington was 5-10 on the game for 117 yards. Woods carried the ball 13 times for 142 yards and Taylor had 13 carries for 109 yards.
