GSO continues 2018-2019 season

Nov. 5, 2018

The Garland Symphony Orchestra continues its 2018-2019 season “Symphonic Kaleidoscope” Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the Granville Arts Center, Brownlee Auditorium, 300 North Fifth Street in downtown Garland.

The great composers often paint a musical picture for us, and sometimes they even try to communicate a specific color. The Garland Symphony Orchestra’s concert season will explore this intriguing intersection between the aural and the visual. With repertoire ranging from Strauss’ Blue Danube Waltz to Gliere’s Red Poppy Suite and from Auber’s Le domino noir to Ellington’s Mood Indigo, we will share with you a panoramic palette of orchestral sound. Pianist Simone Sala opened the season performing Rhapsody in Blue. This season will also feature Kiarra Saito Beckman, violinist, performing John Corigliano’s Chaconne from The Red Violin, along with former London Symphony Orchestra Principal Violist Paul Silverthorne returning to perform the Walton Viola Concerto.

GSO cordially invites you to join us for a dazzling kaleidoscope of exceptional music!

The November concert will feature GSO’s principal flutist, LeeAnne Thompson performing Bach’s Suite No. 2 in B Minor. Thompson has been principal flute of the Garland Symphony Orchestra since 2003. She is a native of Waukesha, Wisconsin and received the Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in flute performance from University of North Texas. Thompson has performed as a soloist in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

She is a freelance musician and pedagogue in the Dallas-Ft Worth metroplex and has an active flute studio in Flower Mound.  Prior to this position, she was an adjunct faculty member at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Thompson was the winner of the Upper Midwest Flute Competition and a finalist in the Frank Bowen Competition, Mid-South Flute Competition and Summerhays Competition. Her primary teachers include Terri Sundberg and Dr. Katherine Kemler.

In addition, the GSO will be performing Tchaikovsky’s brilliant Serenade for Strings, Mozart’s Divertimento in F Major and Holst’s Brook Green Suite.
