A group of Andersen Corporation, a prominent Garland manufacturing company, employee volunteers recently participated in the company’s annual Nature Preservation Day event to clean up Dallas’ White Rock Lake. This volunteerism program provides employees an opportunity to step away from their daily routine, connect with nature and make a positive environmental impact.
The event is one of more than 30 Nature Preservation Day volunteer activities across North America and Europe that Andersen Corporation employees will be completing.
Corporate citizenship is one of Andersen’s core values and has been part of the company’s history since its founding 116 years ago. This value embodies Andersen’s long-standing commitment to leadership in environmental stewardship and making a positive impact in the communities in which Andersen employees live and work.
Fourteen Garland employees donated 42 hours to clean up White Rock Lake. The event was in partnership with For the Love of the Lake. They collected six (13- gallon sized) recycle bags and eight (30-gallon sized) trash bags.
Participant Veronica Ramirez said that it was great to be a part of this experience with her daughters.
“The appreciation of the public at the park was amazing and I believe it helps our young generation learn the value of lending a helping hand,” she said. “It was a great opportunity to spend time with our work family outside of the work.”
Terrence Hobbs called the day a “great learning experience on environmental cleaning.”
“I love the feedback that we received from the runners and bikers that use the park at White Rock Lake,” Hobbs said. “It made me feel good about volunteering.”
