District play begins for GISD HS football teams

The results of the first week of district play for the Garland ISD high schools are below.

NGHS defeats LCHS

 

The North Garland Raiders (4-0, 1-0) started district play with a 28-14 win over the Lakeview Centennial Patriots (1-3, 0-1) Thursday, Sept. 19 at Williams Stadium.

 

The Raiders scored in the first quarter on a 75-yard pass from quarterback Timothy Gauthier to Trey Taylor. Gauthier also scored in the second quarter on a 1-yard rush. Sabron Woods scored twice, on 5- and 6-yard runs. Gauthier was 6-13 with 117 yards. Woods carried the ball 20 times for 144 yards.

Jalen Davis scored for the Patriots in the first quarter on a 70-yard pass from quarterback Jarret Adams and Camar Wheaton scored in the second quarter on a 14-yard rush. Adams ended the game at 15-33 with 208 yards. Wheaton carried the ball 19 times for 86 yards. Davis caught four passes for 98 yards.

 

Owls defeat Colonels

 

The Garland Owls (3-1, 1-0) defeated the South Garland Colonels (1-3, 0-1) by a final score of 56-43 Friday, Sept. 20 at Homer B. Johnson Stadium. Jayshon Powers scored three times for the Owls, first on a 69-yard run, then on 2- and 8-yard rushes. Jordan Hudson got three TDs for GHS on 13-, 15- and 27-yard passes from quarterback Cergio Perez. Charles Allen also had a 19-yard pass reception from Perez for a TD and Jaytric Geter had an 8-yard TD catch.

The Owls had 507 offensive yards on the game, 284 in the air and 223 on the ground. Perez ended the game at 18-26 with 284 yards. Powers carried the ball 19 times for 196 yards. Hudson caught seven passes for 148 yards.

Detavien Lee scored for the Colonels on a 38-yard pass from quarterback Jalil Brown. Brown also connected with Dayvuan Gilmore for a TD and Gilmore scored once on a 1-yard run. Brandon Wyatt added a 2-yard run for a TD and Brown had 56- and 9-yard runs for TDs. Braylin Whiterspoon also had a 93-yard run on a blocked PAT.

 

Brown threw for 41 yards and rushed for 373 on 23 carries.

 

Mustangs defeated by Wylie HS

 

The Sachse Mustangs (2-2, 0-1) lost in their first district contest to Wylie HS Friday, Sept. 20 at Wylie ISD Stadium. The score was 22-21.

 

Shon Coleman scored in the first for the Mustangs on a 16-yard pass reception from quarterback Parker Well. In the third quarter, Tristan Turner caught a 43-yard Xavier Forman pass for a TD and the defense scored when James Boyd returned an interception 31 yards for a score.

Wells finished the game at 6-8 for 113 yards. Jordan Nabors caught three passes for 78 yards. SHS coaches named Jaydon Gibbs Offensive Lineman of the game and recognized Tristan Turner for three receptions and Shon Coleman for 46 rushing yards. They recognized Justice Rider for eight tackles, two TFLs, three QB pressures and a sack. James Boyd was recognized for two tackles and an INT return for a TD. They named Scotty Jesmer MVP for 10 tackles, a QB pressure and fumble recovery. Special teams’ Addison Perez was recognized for hitting 100 percent PATs and great punts.

 

RHS defeats NFHS

 

The Rowlett Eagles (1-3, 1-0) defeated the Naaman Forest Rangers (0-4, 0-1) 7-6 at Williams Stadium Friday, Sept. 20. The Eagles’ TD came on a 2-yard run by Alex Routt. D’Wonyae Newton carried the ball 20 times for 68 yards.

 

The Rangers scored on a 59-yard run by Khyree Ward who carried the ball 14 times for 97 yards.
