With a goal of creating 100 sets of warm hats and scarves, multiple houses of worship of the Interfaith Alliance of North Texas knitted, crocheted and sewed a combined 2,835 hours to create a total of 217 sets and single items. Volunteers gathered at the Dialogue Institute of Richardson to assemble sets of hats and scarves for adults, teens and kids.
After a presentation highlighting the work of the City House of Plano which serves the needs of homeless teens in the DFW area and beyond, fifty sets of hats and scarves were offered to City House to support their work. The remaining 167 hat and scarf sets were divided between POWS (Plano Overnight Warming Station) and GLOWS (Garland Overnight Warming Station). An additional 27 infant hats were prepared for Parkland Hospital newborns.

Katie Colton, a Garland resident and community service representative of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was joined at the event by her husband Dr. Bruce Colton.

Katie said “I really enjoyed working with members of the community to come together to serve others. It was great to see that even though our lives looked different on the outside, our hearts were in the same place. We all had love for our neighbors and wanted to help them through this project.”
