Garland Civic Theatre’s current production, “A Tuna Christmas,” features the same characters from “Greater Tuna,” along with some hilarious new ones. In this second show in the series, it’s Christmas in the third-smallest town in Texas. Radio station OKKK news personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie report on various Yuletide activities, including the competition in the annual lawn-display contest. In other news, voracious Joe Bob Lipsey’s production of A Christmas Carol is jeopardized by unpaid electric bills.
Don’t dare miss a chance to meet the radio personalities and Joe Bob Lipsey, along with Didi Snavely, the owner of Didi’s Used Weapons. You’ll also love Vera Carp, the temporary but fearless leader of the group, “Smut-Snatchers of the New Order” and Bertha Bumiler, member of the Smut-Snatchers. Every Tuna, Texas resident has some unique quirks but that’s what makes them lovable.
“A Tuna Christmas” was first performed in 1989 and was followed by “Red, White and Tuna” and “Tuna Does Vegas.” Each was written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard and performed by Sears and Williams.
The Garland Civic Theatre production of “A Tuna Christmas” will feature David Tinney and Chris Robinson in the starring roles. Cheryl Pellet will direct and Kerra Simms will be the producer.
