The Garland Police Department arrested two subjects after the theft of a pickup truck and vehicle pursuit. Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 11 a.m., Garland police officers responded to the report of a vehicle being stolen in the 1200 block of High Meadow Drive. A witness stated two suspects stole a white Chevrolet pickup and left the location.
Garland officers, with the assistance of the Department of Public Safety helicopter, located the vehicle in Rowlett. When officers attempted to stop the truck, the driver fled leading officers in a vehicle pursuit. During the pursuit, a Garland Police Department vehicle became disabled after being struck by the truck.
The suspects eventually stopped in the 200 block of East Kingsbridge where the driver and front passenger fled on foot. Both subjects were taken into custody after a foot chase. The driver is identified as 29-year-old Luis Gerardo Ruiz, and the passenger as 29-year-old, Jose Oscar Garcia. Both are Dallas residents.
Ruiz is charged with Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle, Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, Aggravated Assault against a Peace Officer and Possession of Methamphetamine. Garcia is charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Evading Arrest.
The investigation is ongoing; however, investigators believe Ruiz and Garcia may be involved in other crimes in Garland.
