For more than 30 years, the artwork of Garland ISD students has helped ring in the holiday season thanks to the district’s annual Fifth Grade Greeting Card Contest. It begins at the campus level every year with elementary schools determining one entry to represent the school. A panel of judges then votes on the districtwide winners.
The 2019 competition featured 11 schools and submissions that ranged from drawing to painting to digital art. Three winners were recently named, including:
- Alexandria Bono, Sewell Elementary School
- Kaylee Gallardo, Weaver Elementary School
- Ricky Tran, Walnut Glen Academy for Excellence
Greeting cards printed with these students’ designs will be sent by the district to dignitaries across the state. Each of the winners will also receive 50 copies of their own. And, they will be recognized by the GISD Board of Trustees with an Evidence of Excellence award Dec. 17.
