Good Sam hosts evening of fun at murder mystery dinner

Mar. 11, 2020

Good Samaritans of Garland’s SOLD OUT murder mystery dinner, “A Plot of Murder,” by Lee Mueller drew a huge crowd at the Atrium Friday, March 6. If you missed this event, you missed an evening filled with fun and entertainment. The mystery was centered around the murder of a city council member at a homeowners association meeting.

The production was fast-moving and filled with laughs. The dialogue included some great lines about some of the ridiculous arguments that actually happen between people in HOAs.

Phil Mendoza played Councilman Ratliff, who was the murder victim. Bryan Bradford, Garland’s city manager, portrayed Secret Federal Agent McMansion who stated at every turn that he was not “at liberty to say” anything.

Paul Mayer, CEO of Garland’s Chamber of Commerce, played the disinterested, often napping, HOA board president and Garland’s first lady, Tiffany LeMay, portrayed realtor, Fannie Mae. Pam Swendig, Good Sam executive director, played Ella, an HOA board member.

John Wiseman was thoroughly entertaining as Lou Braunhorst, a paranoid resident of the neighborhood who hilariously used at least one incorrect word in every sentence. Libby Odom was also hilarious as senior citizen Ethyl Cornwitz who took every opportunity to remind everyone that she was “on a fixed income.” Beth Datomo came home to Garland to portray Tanya, Councilman Ratcliff’s assistant.

Scott Airitam played Lars Cuttovich, an HOA board member; Zachary Robbins was Eric Lawson, a law student and resident in the neighborhood; Morgan LeMay was Eric’s wife.

Dinner and dessert, provided by San-Tex Catering (owned by Santini Saygidia), were delicious and there was a large variety of silent auction items.

Special thanks to Teria Bradford who spent countless hours planning and working on this entertaining event. The funds raised will be used to help provide food to people in need.

Everyone at Good Sam would like to thank sponsors AECOM and Frost Bank. Also, thanks to the Atrium; Chuck Clark Photography; Garland Civic Theatre; Nick Gibson Videographer; Tony Guerry, KT Publishing; Guy Lawson, Lawson Communications; Tony Metcalf, sound technician; and Precision Reprographics.
