Following the guidelines set this week by Gov. Greg Abbott, Garland is preparing to reopen the Bridges Course at Firewheel Golf Park and the Jack Coleman Tennis Center.
At the Bridges clubhouse, the restaurant will remain closed and inside access will be limited. Tee time gaps will be spread from eight minutes to 12 minutes to create space between groups and rakes will be removed from sand traps to prevent use by multiple golfers over the course of a day. The driving range will be open, with increased distances between tee boxes. Carts will be limited to a single user, per the governor’s order. Tennis also can be played with social distance in mind and in groups of four or less, which matches the guidelines in the state’s first phase of reopening. The Jack Coleman Tennis Center features 13 courts at Rick Oden Park, 1010 West Miller Road.
In addition, as approved by the City Council on Tuesday night, curbside service at all four Garland libraries will resume in the next week. But the libraries themselves remain closed to the public, as do the city’s arts venues, recreation and senior centers and municipal court.
The city also continues to work with utility customers who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Those behind on payments are asked to contact Utility Customer Service at 972-205-2671 or CustServ@GarlandTX.gov to discuss their situation.
Under the state order, public swimming pools, bars, interactive amusement venues and salons remain closed. Long-term care facilities remain closed to visitors.
City health and emergency management officials remind residents that during the first phase of the governor’s plan, residents are asked to continue to stay home if they can, to keep physical distancing and to wash or disinfect hands.
