As of July 21, the State of Texas reported 341,739 cases of COVID-19. There have been approximately 186,529 recoveries and 4,151 deaths.
On the same day, Dallas County reported 43,026 cases with 537 fatalities. The county does not report recovery numbers. This date marks the first time in almost three weeks that the daily number of new COVID-19 cases was under 1,000 at 734. Eleven deaths were reported.
“I’m pleased to report that after a plateau in hospitalizations and new cases for the last six days, we are below 1,000 for the first time in 18 days with 734 cases today,” County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement. “One day does not make a trend but this is an encouraging data point. Wearing your mask and avoiding unnecessary trips and exposure to people outside your home is working in Dallas County and North Texas. Please keep doing it. We all have a role to play in slowing the spread of COVID-19. Your role is to make smart decisions.”
Jenkins’ statement also said that more than 1,200 children have been diagnosed with COVID-19 during the first three weeks of July, including 29 children who have been hospitalized. There have been 98 confirmed COVID-19 cases in children and staff reported from 65 Dallas County daycare centers since June 1. Three staff members were hospitalized.
Garland has reported 3,678 cases as of July 21. The number of currently active cases is 1,930 and 1,714 people have recovered. There have been 34 deaths.
Please continue to follow guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Outside your home – Stay at least six feet away from people who don’t live in your household.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others. Continue to put six feet between you and anyone who doesn’t live in your household as the cloth face cover is not a substitute for social distancing.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow and do not spit.
- Immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds after you cough or sneeze. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
- Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily – tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets and sinks.
