Faith Artists exhibit at Granville Arts Center

Apr. 6, 2021

Faith Artists is a group of local artists dedicated to promoting and producing faith-based, scripture-inspired art which shares the love of Christ. The Faith Artists art collection currently on display at the Granville Arts Center is called ‘Inspired Vision.’ It includes 22 pieces by 14 artists.

According to Kendra Walden, founding member of the group of artists, they produce a themed collection each year. It is typically shown at two to four venues per year.

Walden was initially an agent that helped artists develop their product and find the right market for it.

“Out of that I had a couple of opportunities to produce major art shows and that’s where Faith Artists began. I decided that I was going to produce faith-based shows because, as a Christian, I wanted to show my faith,” she said.

The following artists have pieces in the exhibit:
  • Tom Banker
  • Lee Bowman
  • Kathryn Kneip Bradley
  • Stephanie Bray
  • Ardie Hollowell
  • Tom Huch
  • Larry Maupin
  • Camille Riggs
  • Russ Reed
  • Mo Sanford
  • Mark Smith
  • Kevin Thompson
  • Kendra Waldenfaith
  • K. Scott Williamson

The collection was intended to premier in 2020 but COVID-19 shut down the venues. Fortunately, the artists were willing to save their entries until things opened up again.

Each piece has an inspiration statement that shares the ‘heart of art’ and what the artist wants to communicate to a viewer.

K. Scott Williamson’s piece pictured here is a sweet example of a child seeing well for the first time with proper new glasses.

The artist’s description is as follows: This picture is of a young boy‘s look of surprise after he put on his first pair of glasses that gave him 20/20 vision. My sister captured a photo of the boy, with wide eyes and mouth agape, as he looked at details and faces with wonder. This is one of my sister’s favorite memories from a Sight Ministry International visit to the remote southern Mexico village.

The collection will be on display at the Granville Arts Center, 300 North Fifth Street in downtown Garland, until June 3. Admission is free. The exhibit may be viewed Monday – Friday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and during performances.

It will be at Garland’s Monica Park Christian Church, 2600 Broadway Blvd., June 3 through Aug. 31.
