The Covid-19 pandemic has affected all of us in different ways. There is increased food insecurity, homelessness, loneliness and illness. Many organizations are helping however they can. The Kiwanis Club of Garland’s motto is “Serving our Children and Communities.” With this in mind, they have been meeting on zoom to make sure that mission is achieved.
The club delivered muffins to the Golden Meadows staff to thank them for all they do for GISD’s students. They collected socks, blankets, scarves, masks and toiletries for Wendy Sheriff of the GPD to distribute to the homeless.
Money, food, blankets, masks and used coats were collected for clients of Good Samaritans, Inc. The club also partnered with North Garland High School’s Key Club to support Jonathan’s Club.
The organization holds monthly Zoom meetings and continues to find ways to help the community.
The club’s next project is to collect food for Good Samaritans, Inc. for school children during the summer. They will also sponsor “The Volunteer Fair” at no cost to the organizations that need volunteers.
