Obituary: Tom G. Durden

Tom G. Durden passed from this life on July 9, 2021 at the age of 74 at his home in Brownwood. To honor Tom’s wishes, the family will not have formal services but will celebrate his life as Tom would want.

Tom was born February 14, 1947, in Big Spring, TX to Kenneth and Jonnie Mae (McDonald) Durden the next to the youngest of 8 children. He grew up and went to school in Santa Anna, TX. He later moved to several places in Texas as he worked in the oil field, HVAC and maintenance, such as Big Lake and Victoria. He spent most of his later years in Richardson where he married Betty Lois Ewry October 20, 1990 until death separated them May 1, 2014. He retired from DalFort Aviation after a long career in HVAC maintenance.

Tom enjoyed Facebook, keeping up with family and friends. He always had a funny post or an opinion to share. He also enjoyed knife smithing and was a Free Mason. He spent his last years in Brownwood and enjoyed eating at local restaurants, having dinner or just a cup of coffee and conversation with a friend. Tom always had a story to tell whether it was funny, a life lesson or one just to tell.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Clark and husband, Robert of Brownwood; sons Jimmy Durden of Menard and Tomy Durden and girlfriend, Catherine of Garland; five grandchildren, April Isnhower and husband, Clint of Quanah, Courtney Cardenas and husband, Nick of Menard, Zayne Durden of Menard, Caleb Mendez and wife Casondra of Dickinson, and Xander Ewry of Plano; four great-grandchildren, Kendree Isnhower, Landri Isnhower, Harper Cardenas, and Morgan Mendez; Tom’s younger brother, Jim Durden and his wife, Kay, of Brownwood. He is also survived by LOTS of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews and lots of friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers, Ray, Mark, Cleve and Weldon, two sisters, Rena Mae Ethridge and Jane Horton.

The family would like to express a special thank you to a very dear and special friend that was like a daughter to him and took care of him, Mary and Rubin Zamarripa, and their family. Thank you for all you did for him. You were a true blessing to him over the years.
