The Garland Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (GCPAAA) was been selected as one of 10 Rise Award finalists.
“It is an honor to have been nominated. We are so excited and thankful that we had the community support to move forward as a finalist with the possibility of winning the $7,500.00 prize to help our PD,” Monica Doherty said.
GCPAAA was nominated in the community category. Axon Enterprises, Inc., the sponsor of the contest, thanked the association for its community service.
“We are so inspired by the more than 150 RISE nominations we received as part of our 2021 RISE Awards program and appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us and your community,” they stated in the notification email. “This year’s nominations received more than 16,500 community votes, which determined our top 10 finalists in each category.”
Click HERE to see a complete list of finalists. Judges are now reviewing the finalists to select the award recipients. Winners will be announced at Axon Accelerate Nov. 1-3 in Phoenix. Axon Accelerate is a public safety tech conference.

GCPAAA – 26 Years of Support for our Police Officers – In 1993, the GCPAAA was founded as a stand-alone 501(c)(3) organization. The group is independent of the Garland Police Department. However, it exists to provide an avenue for continued involvement for the CPA graduates who wish to give back to their department and community. The GCPAAA is an all-volunteer organization whose interest in law enforcement and appreciation of the Garland Police Department brings them together in service. In addition, the organization has been the recipient of many awards and recognitions.
