After a bye week in the seventh week of the high school football season, several of the District 9-6A HS teams returned in week eight with some high-scoring contests.
Owls get win over Mustangs to remain unbeaten
The Garland Owls (7-0, 4-0) remained unbeaten after a 54-41 win over the Sachse Mustangs (4-3, 3-1) Thursday, Oct. 14, at Homer B. Johnson Stadium. Garland HS quarterback Cergio Perez
finished the game at 20-24 (over 83%) with 322 yards and six touchdowns. Jordan Hudson caught four of the TD passes and collected 134 yards in receptions. Ellis Rogers caught two of Perez’s TD passes and put together 150 yards in catches. Jayshon Powers carried the ball 19 times for 111 yards and a score. Perez also scored a rushing TD.
Sachse HS quarterback Alex Orji finished the game at 16-26 with 267 yards and one passing score. Elijah Aimes caught the TD pass. Orji also carried the ball 19 times for 132 yards and five touchdowns.
The Mustangs’ coaches recognized Orji as the Offensive MVP and James Adams as the Defensive MVP. Adams had four solo tackles, two assists and two blocked PATs.
Naaman Forest Rangers defeat Wylie Pirates
The NFHS Rangers (3-1, 3-1) got a 42-21 win over the WHS Pirates (2-2, 2-5) Thursday, Oct. 14, at Williams Stadium. Rangers’ QB Tray Walton ended the game at 11-17 with 137 yards. Jaden Flores caught five passes for 111 yards.
Kingsley Bennett carried the ball 26 times for 205 yards and five touchdowns. The defense also scored for the Rangers on a 31-yard interception return.
Eagles get win over Raiders
The Rowlett Eagles (2-5, 2-2) defeated the North Garland Raiders (4-3, 1-3) by a score of 24-7. Friday. Oct. 15, at Williams Stadium. Devonta Crow scored two TDs for the Eagles and carried
the ball 10 times for 89 yards. The Eagle defense also added a TD on a 39-yard interception return by Michael Ibukun-Okeyode. The Eagles also scored on a 44-yard field goal. QB James Okolo ended the game at 10-20 with 98 yards.
Raiders’ QB Godspower Nwawuihe scored on a 2-yard run.
Patriots defeat Titans
The Lakeview Centennial Patriots (4-3, 1-3) got a 60-20 win over the South Garland Titans (0-7, 0-4) Friday, Oct. 15, at Homer B. Johnson Stadium. LCHS quarterback ended the game at 5-7 with 93 yards and two TDs. Caylon Montgomery and Savion Hunter each caught touchdown passes. Zechariah Dunston carried the ball 11 times for 127 yards and three TDs. Another two touchdowns were made by Savion Hunter and Zavion Wright on kickoff returns. The defense also scored for the Patriots on a 92-yard fumble recovery by Daniel Adame.
The Titans’ quarterback, Jaden Holland threw for 75 yards and one touchdown on the game. QB Jimmy Shelly also threw for two TDs. Passes were caught by Tyreon Key and Jacob Crim.
