Dos Banderas owner sees opportunity in downtown Garland

Dec. 14, 2021

Matt Archer was ready to move back to Texas to be near his kids and to start a new life after years of business travel. He had held executive positions in the medical field for 15 years and was looking for a new business. After exploring different types of businesses, including restaurants, Archer said that Dos Banderas really stood out to him.

“I saw that the city of Garland was committed to the downtown business district. Also, this particular restaurant’s location in that district provides a long runway for the future,” Archer said. “I think there is a lot of opportunity in this location to do something really special.”

Archer was also impressed with the way the community supports the restaurant and the entire downtown area. He referred to the residents’ loyalty to their city as “profound.”

dosArcher has made a few changes in the restaurant’s appearance, but he hasn’t had time to think about lots of menu changes.

“In the future, I’ll be making some changes. But I’ll always leave the traditional items on the menu,” he said.” “I’ll also be adding some things the community is asking for.”

The menu additions will include a “very Texas-forward” approach to Tex-Mex. For example, there will be more smoked meats on the menu, but they will be integrated into the Tex-Mex. Archer explained that adjustments need to be made to move forward.

“We can’t continue the same thing with the changing times,” he said.

Weekly live music has been added and the community is responding well. Archer will continue that and hopefully add more live shows. Joe the Musician is currently the live attraction.dos

The margarita recipe has also been replaced with a new one that calls for fresh lime and no mixers. Sales have increased with the new recipe. A new queso blanco has been added to the menu and is very popular. Additionally, the praline recipe has been changed to a more traditional Mexican praline.

The owner explained that he is more focused on enhancements instead of big changes.

“We are going to enhance Dos Banderas,’ Archer said. “We’ll still have all the things that are on the menu now but we will be adding to it. It’s an opportunity to have more things to like about this restaurant.”

Archer is enjoying getting to know the customers and wants everyone to know that he is always open to feedback and suggestions.
