As Senior Prom and then graduation season begins at Garland Independent School District High Schools, campuses educate their students about the dangers of drinking and driving on prom night. According to a law firm Edgar Snyder & Associates study, more than 90% of teens believe their classmates will likely drink and drive on prom night. This statistic is why Sachse High School took part in the “Shattered Dreams” educational experience last month at their campus.
“Shattered Dreams” is an educational experience that visualizes the dangers of drinking and driving. The program’s message reminds students that too many young lives have been lost, and numerous others have been severely impaired due to the tragic results of underage drinking and driving.
Seniors at Sachse High School took part in the two-day “Shattered Dreams” event by watching two short films produced by GISD’s GRS-TV and student volunteers and then visited a mock car crash staged in front of the Sachse High School campus. With the help of the Sachse Fire Department, students dramatized the aftermath of a drunk driving accident involving six Sachse High School seniors. The entire senior class watched as the fire safety professionals rescued survivors of the crash and attended to a student who perished in the accident.
The safety of our students is our top priority in Garland ISD. Educating our seniors on the dangers of drinking and driving will hopefully save lives and protect the youth of our community.
