Update Aug. 19 – An additional victim, 15, died in the hospital.
On Aug. 14, just before11 a.m., the Garland Police and Fire departments responded to a house fire in the 600 block of East Ridgewood Drive. Multiple injuries were reported and several individuals were transported to area hospitals with life-threatening injuries.
Officers learned that there were reports of some type of explosion. Six family members between the ages of 3 and 54 were injured due to the fire inside the residence. Garland firefighters and paramedics responded to contain the fire and render aid.
GFD has confirmed that a 54-year-old female passed away Aug. 15 from her injuries. The remaining five family members are still in critical condition at this time.
The Garland Fire Department is working with multiple agencies as they are still determining the cause of the fire.
