Dental clinic – Free services for veterans

Nov. 3, 2022

Texas Mission of Mercy (TMOM), a mobile dental clinic that delivers pain-relieving dental care at no cost to underserved Texans, is coming to Dallas on Nov. 4-5. TMOM has teamed up with the Salvation Army to provide this service.

According to the American Dental Association, many adults do not have access to or qualify for programs that provide needed dental care, which leads to more serious health problems due to untreated dental issues.

Texas Mission of Mercy, Inc. (TMOM, Inc.) is working to address this need. With our Texas Mission of Mercy (TMOM) Event, a mobile dental clinic that hosts four events across Texas each year, we are working to provide appropriate dental care. TMOM’s mission is to improve access to dental care to the underserved of Texas.

“Our volunteer dental professionals’ primary focus is on relieving pain and preventing infection by providing extractions, fillings, and limited hygiene. We are grateful to provide this level of care as we come out of the global pandemic. People are in pain and our volunteers are helping them heal,” said Judith Gonzalez, director of the TDA Smiles Foundation and TMOM, Inc.

More than 30 volunteer dentists and 350 volunteers from the dental profession, businesses, and community groups will provide charitable care to the community of Dallas and the surrounding area. The services, which are free of cost, include basic, pain-relieving, and preventive procedures such as dental fillings and extractions. Due to new guidelines, restrictions, and physical distancing, organizers expect to see fewer patients but provide more treatment and make a significant impact per person.

All patients must be prescreened for the event. Prescreening will take place Friday, Oct. 28 at the Dental Specialists’ office (4880 N. President Bush Hwy. #101 in Garland) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Patients should plan to bring their military ID along with a list of current medications they are taking.

Prescreened patients should plan to arrive an hour early for their scheduled appointments on either Friday, Nov. 4, or Saturday, Nov. 5 at Salvation Army Garland Corps (451 W. Ave. D in Garland). This event is focused on providing care to veterans, but no one will be turned away due to lack of veteran status. TMOM is a program of Texas Mission of Mercy, Inc. and supported by the Texas Dental Association Smiles foundation and the Texas Dental Association. Since 2001, TMOM, Inc. has held 84 mission events throughout Texas, providing care to more than 42,500 patients. For information or to volunteer, visit www.tmominc.com.
