The city of Garland earned 15 awards during the annual Texas Association of Telecommunications Officers & Advisors conference in early November in McAllen.
Garland received awards in 12 categories, including four first-place trophies for the following productions:
- Documentary: “Garland SWAT Carry-On March” (Police)
- Public Service Announcement: “Downtown Parking“
- Event Program/Promotion: “The Guzzler“
- Use of Humor: “Downtown Parking”
The city was awarded second place in four categories:
- Public Education: “Trash Talking Tony“
- Public Health/Public Safety: “Lateral Recruiting” (Police)
- Public Service Announcement: “Track My Truck“
- Event Program/Promotion: “Dog Show Promo“
Two other videos earned third place:
- Profile of an Organization: “Victim’s Advocate Week” (Police)
- Animal Services: “MTV Cribs“
Five productions earned Honorable Mention:
- Public Education: “Street Talk Q&A’s“
- Special Audience: “GPD FRST Sports Academy” (Police)
- Public Service Announcement: “Still Here” (Police)
- Weather: “Winter Storm Cleanup“
- Storytelling: “Jimmy Wallace Guitars“
Five of the award-winning videos were produced by the Garland Police Department. The others were created by the Public & Media Relations Department. Garland’s Public & Media Relations Department manages and assists with production of the City’s Government Access Cable Channel (CGTV), Garland City Press and other publications and the city website.
