A press release distributed by the Rowlett Police Department Thursday, Nov. 17, stated that a suspended student had been on the Rowlett High School campus, 4700 President George Bush Turnpike that day around 11:15 a.m. The release explained that a female assistant principal saw a student in a hallway on the first floor who was not wearing an RHS student ID. In addition, the student was wearing a full-face black ski mask.
When the assistant principal asked for a valid Rowlett HS ID, the student was unable to show one. The assistant principal then notified the Rowlett Police Department school resource officer who is assigned to the school. The student tried to walk away when the officer arrived. The officer attempted to detain the student for a criminal trespass violation, and the student began to attack the officer by hitting him with closed fists. The student also assaulted the female assistant principal. The student managed to leave the building and run into the woods on the north side of the RHS campus.
Rowlett Police Department officers and detectives responded to the high school and immediately began searching for the student.
According to the press release, all students and staff were safe during the police investigation.
The release also indicated that criminal charges are pending, and the investigation is ongoing.
