Saturday, March 18, just after 2:30 a.m., Garland Police Department officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress where gunshots were fired. Officers responded to an apartment complex in the 4300 block of North Garland Avenue, Woodlands at the Preserve. GPD officers arrived on the scene and observed two males who suffered from apparent gunshot wounds. One was inside the apartment residence and the other outside near the same residence. Paramedics responded, and both males passed away at the scene.
During the preliminary investigation, the resident told officers that two subjects forced entry into the apartment and began shooting at him. The apartment resident advised he returned fire to defend himself.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner has not positively identified the deceased.
This is an active and ongoing investigation. GPD detectives are trying to determine why the individuals targeted this specific apartment.
