Duck Creek District hosted its annual cook-off at the First Presbyterian Church in Garland Thursday, May 2. This year the challenge theme was Breakfast for Dinner.
Adult leaders and scouts competed in separate categories. Besides taste and presentation points teams got extra points for remarkable stories, understanding food allergens and camp kitchen cleanliness. Once again, the judges were impressed by the creativity and the camp cooking skill of four scouts and their adult leaders.
The scouts are grateful to Council Members Margaret Lucht and Dylan Hedrick (with his young son in tow), who helped judge the cooking and Megan McPhail of Rowlett, who organized the event. The remaining judges were Robert Haliday, Dave Freeborn and David Parrish.
The top three adult teams were each awarded an apron and a meat thermometer.
The teams were:
- First Place–The Tucker Experience (Troop 1989B)
- Second Place-We-Be-Loh-No-You-Didn’t (Pack 244/Troop 1188B)
- Third Place-Super Troopers (Troop 1199 B/G) The top three youth teams received a cutting board and a spice kit.
The teams were:
- First Place–The French Emperors (Troop 1989B) served French toast and strawberries with a story inspired by the upcoming Paris Olympics.
- Second Place-The Travelers (Troop 57B/G & Crew 57) served middle earth fantasy of Orc Sausage, Dwarf Pastry and Dragon Scales.
- Third Place-Pack 1988 served their tasty Scotch Eggs with avocado toast.
All had a wonderful time, and everyone is looking forward to next year’s Scout Cook Off.
