GCT presents ‘A Tuna Christmas’

Nov. 10, 2024

A Tuna Christmas, has become a fan favorite and a Garland tradition. A Tuna Christmas is a special engagement for Garland Civic Theatre, running for only one weekend Nov. 22 – 24, 2024. Friday and Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

tunaA Tuna Christmas is a holiday-themed comedy play written by Ed Howard, Joe Sears, and Jaston Williams that’s a sequel to Greater Tuna. The play is set in Tuna, Texas, the third-smallest town in the state, during Christmas time. The story follows radio station news personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie as they report on local holiday activities, including the town’s annual Christmas Yard Display Contest. The play

includes 24 characters, but only two actors. The play contains adult language and mature content themes, including smoking, drinking, innuendos, and plays-on-words.

David Tinney returns to star in the show and also directs this year. “This is our fourth time performing this play, but there will be some differences this year. We have cast Steve Iwanski opposite my characters. Iwanski has performed in other Tuna, Texas renditions at other local theatres. So even if you’ve seen it before, this year will be a new spin on what hastuna turned into a family tradition for many in Garland,” said Tinney.
