Aggravated robbery suspect arrested

On Feb. 18 shortly after 8:30 p.m., the Garland Police Department responded to an aggravated robbery reported at the SK Mart convenience store located in the 1400 block of North Glenbrook.

A witness observed a male subject robbing the store with a gun and gave officers a description. The witness also told the police officers in what direction the subject had fled. Officers observed a yellow Volkswagen Beetle with a black convertible top driving without the headlights on in the neighborhood near the convenience store that was robbed. Police officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the vehicle fled and then lead officers on a pursuit through three counties.

The subject, who has been identified as 19-year-old Allen Daniel Smith of Rowlett, was arrested with the assistance of the Fort Worth, Roanoke and Keller police departments, along with the Department of Public Safety 101 helicopter.

Police said that the gun that was used in the robbery was located and had been reported stolen out of Mesquite.

Smith, who has a criminal record, has been charged with the following crimes: Aggravated Robbery, Evading Arrest in a Vehicle and Unlawful Carrying of a Firearm by Felon.

Smith is currently being held in the Garland Detention Center. Bond amounts set for each of the charges are listed below:

$15,000 – Aggravated Robbery

$3,500   – Unlawful Possession of Firearm by Felon

$3,500   – Evading Arrest in a Vehicle
