Aggravated robbery suspect shoots himself

Just after 9 a.m., Friday, Dec. 11, the Garland Police Department was advised that Wylie Police Department officers were following a stolen vehicle in the area of North Country Club Drive and Pleasant Valley Road. Officers were made aware the car was recently stolen at gunpoint in Dallas. The driver of the stolen vehicle turned into the north alley of the 1400 block of Bosque Drive and stopped.  While officers were attempting to communicate with the driver, they heard a gunshot come from inside the stolen vehicle. Officers observed that the driver was suffering from a gunshot wound.  Garland paramedics transported him to a hospital where he is in critical condition. 

A handgun was located inside the stolen vehicle.

Investigators believe that after the driver of the stolen vehicle stopped, he shot himself. There is no indication that officers fired their weapons, and there were no other occupants inside the car.

The identity of the man shot is not being released at this time.
