Alpha Charter School UIL District Academic Coordinator Brandon Barrier recently conducted a virtual academic competition. This meet was the first competition of the season for Alpha Charter School’s UIL academic teams, as they competed against 36 Conference 2A Texas schools.
This meet marked the first time in the school’s history that students competed in academic sports. Virtual meets prepare students for UIL competition where they will compete in Conference 2A Region 2 District 12.
Christian Dominguez placed 13th overall in 2A computer science. Aaron Martinez placed fifth overall in 2A physics
Other students who participated include Kameshia Actwood, Horace Cox, Angel Hernandez, Devonzell Hollingsworth, Korey Bruner and Sydney Lewis
“I am excited that these students are willing to challenge themselves over and beyond what is normally expected of them in the classroom,” Barrier said. “This meet was a great preparation for future contests by competing against many of the top small school UIL academic programs in Texas.”
Teachers who assisted with the testing include Kybron Hawkins, Angela Hathaway, Adam Bennett, Jim Polk and Erica Bell.
