Once again, Altrusa of Garland celebrated Make a Difference Day (Oct. 23) by partnering with Good Samaritan of Garland again this year for Make A Difference Day. Our Make a Difference Day plan included collecting and delivering items for a variety of projects that would be appreciated and enjoyed by our unhoused neighbors in the Garland area.
Pictured are examples of the 500 grocery bags decorated by our membership to add hope and cheer to Good Sam’s grocery distribution. Before delivering these bags to be filled with groceries, Altrusans added approximately 500 gifts of literacy to the bags through free books (children’s and/or adults).
In addition to the books and bag donations, Group members assembled and delivered 40 hygiene bags to Good Sam to distribute during the next regular visit by Streetside Showers. The hygiene bags were stuffed with items like shampoo, razors, hand sanitizer wipes, first aid kits, foot powder, manicure set, deodorant, dental floss and other items you’d typically find in your bathroom.
And of course, the end of October is not complete without a little Halloween candy, so we stuffed and delivered loot bags for the children who visited Good Sam..Because around Halloween, you can’t ever get enough candy!
