Altrusa members meet Officer Wendy Sheriff

Mar. 25, 2019

Altrusa International of Garland hosted Officer Wendy Sheriff of the Garland Police Department at its March 14 business meeting. Officer Wendy, as she is known among Garland’s unhoused community, serves on the Garland PD as the community relations homeless and mental health liaison. She has served with the Garland Police Department for 25 years in various positions and is an accomplished leader, educating others about family and workforce violence, awareness of homelessness and those susceptible as well as the link with mental illness.

Altrusa International of Garland is a civic organization focusing on the needs of Garland. Altrusa’s purpose is serving others through service projects and fundraising efforts tailored for the Garland community. Partnering with organizations and citizens of Garland like Officer Wendy allows Altrusa’s members to tailor activities that help raise awareness to community issues like homelessness, hunger, poverty, literacy and more.

Officer Wendy shared experiences of working with the homeless community. Her knowledge of the issues and obstacles many of the homeless face will help Altrusa in their efforts to serve this segment of the Garland community.
