Altrusa sends care packages to soldiers

Jul. 11, 2022

Altrusa International of Garland’s service projects include everything from the promotion of literacy to distributing care packages. All are important, worthy causes. But, the one that was most recently completed will put smiles on the faces of many military members.

The group collects items to ship to the military throughout each year. This year, they had enough items to assemble and send more than 40 cartons. Each included items such as jerky, soup, snacks, shampoo, sunscreen and more.

The Altrusans are proud of the Care Packages for Soldiers project, as well as additional projects listed below:

  • “Welcome to Chillville” grant for Founders Plaza Nursing & Rehabilitation Center
  • Weaver Elementary grant for Early Childhood Special Education Program
  • Make a Difference Day – helping our community
  • Future Readers of Garland – promoting literacy
  • Care packages for local nursing home residents
About Altrusa International:

Altrusa International is a nonprofit organization that has provided service to our communities since its formation in 1917. The organization’s focus is literacy, but the members explore all ways to improve communities. Projects can include scholarships for higher education, reading and literacy programs for children and adults, support for the homeless, feeding our hungry both locally and internationally and much more. Altrusa International strives to make its local clubs inclusive to all in the community and welcomes all individuals who want to make service to others a part of their life.

About Altrusa International of Garland:

It all began in 2002 when a few dynamic women of Garland decided to form an Altrusa club to serve the communities of Garland, Rowlett and Sachse. Almost 20 years later, Altrusa Garland has remained dedicated to improving our community in a variety of ways. While our primary focus remains on literacy, we also undertake a variety of other projects from boxes to the military, support of local food banks, serving our unhoused neighbors, supporting women’s shelters, senior citizens and more.
