Amy Huynh of Garland receives National Merit Scholarship

Sep. 6, 2021

Amy Huynh receives the 2021 James E. Casey Merit Scholarship. Amy is a Garland resident and daughter to UPS driver Steven Huynh and Laura Liu Huynh. With just one point off a perfect score on her PSAT, her many accomplishments set her apart from the crowd.

The UPS Foundation awards scholarships to the children of UPSers and eligible dependents to recognize outstanding academic performance and distinguished achievement in high school.

Amy will be attending the University of Oklahoma, majoring in biochemistry on the pre-med track.

“We’re proud of our daughter and her determination to succeed,” said Steven.

Scholarship winners must score very high on the PSAT/NMSQT in addition to significant activities and contributions to their high school and community. The $2,500 stipend is awarded each year for four years or until the bachelor’s degree requirements are completed, whichever occurs first.

Amy, a member of the National Honor Society while attending Lakeview Centennial High, stayed active with her many extra-curricular activities. She played on the high school tennis team and was an active member of the student council and DECA. Amy also worked at the food pantry and served on the library teen advisory board. Her hobbies include Minecraft, working out and reading.

She says, the coolest thing about being part of the Class of 2021 is,

“The family we made with the people we’ve met.”

Scholarship winners must score high on the PSAT/NMSQT. Additionally, they must have participated in significant activities. They also must have made significant contributions to their high school and community.
