Campuses named leaders in student achievement

Jul. 12, 2018

Congratulations are in order for seven Garland ISD campuses that were recently named 2017-18 Texas Honor Roll schools. Beaver and Watson Technology Centers for Math and Science, as well as Cooper and Sewell elementary schools and Hillside, Kimberlin and Walnut Glen Academies for Excellence all received this distinction.

The Texas Honor Roll, presented by Educational Results Partnership (ERP) and the Institute for Productivity in Education (IPE), recognizes public elementary, middle, and high school campuses that demonstrate consistently high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement over time, and reduction in achievement gaps. This year, just 729 schools across the state earned the prestigious designation. They will now receive a banner to display on campus that announces their accolade. They will also be featured on the ERP website, where educators and policymakers seek out high performing schools in order to replicate their success.

“Through national research, we have identified a common set of success factors in higher performing Honor Roll schools and school districts. These include clear, specific learning objectives aligned to college and career readiness, along with evidence-based instructional practices; establishing a system-wide mission of college and career readiness for all students; investing in human capital; maintaining data and assessment systems to monitor school and student performance; and deploying resources and guidance to support schools’ efforts to prepare all students for college and career,” said ERP President and CEO James Lanich in a congratulatory letter. “From all of us at ERP and IPE, I would like to thank you and your educators for a job well done. We are proud to tell your story and promote your success!”
