City announces Earth Day activities

Earth Day is Friday, April 22. Check out these activities and invest in our planet.

Earth Day Recycled Sculpture

Families with kids ages 6 to 12 can learn about recycling by making a fun craft from recyclable materials for Earth Day. This activity is at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the Central Library, 625 Austin Street. Registration is required and limited to 15 participants. Call 972-205-2517 or register online.

Go Green Garland’s Earth Day Celebration

Join Go Green Garland for a FREE drive-thru Earth Day celebration event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 23. The drive-thru will be in the parking lot behind the Granville Arts Center, 300. North Fifth Street. Enjoy electronics and battery recycling, paper shredding, cardboard recycling and more! Proof of Garland residency, such as a utility bill, is required. Adult Craft Workshop 

In addition, adults age 18 and older can celebrate Earth Day by making a hanging planter out of recycled materials. This activity is at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at the South Garland Branch Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd. Create a planter from a repurposed soda bottle, then add soil and seeds to start growing a plant you can take home! The event is free but registration is required. Space is limited. Register online or call 972-205-3931.
