Garland is celebrating National Parks & Recreation Month this July and the parks and recreation facilities run by the city offer ample opportunities for residents to Get Out & Play!
Nearly three in 10 U.S. adults do not spend time outside on a daily basis and of those who do, almost half spend less than 30 minutes in the fresh air, according to a survey released by the National Recreation and Parks Association. That’s why this July, the city of Garland and NRPA are challenging everyone to get out and visit their community parks and recreation centers during National Park & Recreation Month.
To encourage everyone in Garland to Get Out & Play, the following free events are being offered this July to celebrate Parks & Recreation Month:
Family Night Out: Food, Fun and Fireworks! – 6 p.m., Saturday, July 30, Central Park (1310 W. Avenue F)

Bring your blankets and chairs and enjoy local food trucks, children’s entertainment, bounce houses, games and the best party music to rock out to with entertainment from Downtown Fever. Fireworks will conclude the evening at dark.

• 8 p.m. Downtown Fever take the stage – MOTION. MUSIC. ENERGY.

Twilight Fun Run and Swim Party – 7 p.m., July 15 at Surf and Swim (440 West Oates Road)
Join us for a Twilight Fun Run and Swim Party to benefit #GARLANDSTRONG foundation.

• All participants will receive a race T-shirt and free In-n-Out burger meal. Pre-register by July 5 to guarantee your shirt size.
• After the race Surf and Swim will be open for an exclusive swim party till 9:30 p.m.
• Don’t want to run the 5k? Buy a ticket for swim party and receive a free In-n-Out burger meal.
• Dress as your favorite superhero and win a prize for best individual and group costumes.
Surfin’ Safari – 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., July 20, Surf and Swim (440 West Oates Road)
Join us for a Surfin’ Safari and meet animals from the Dallas Zoo’s Animal Adventure Outreach Program during two presentations. This is valid with regular park admission.
Surf and Swim’s Birthday Celebration – 10:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., July 27 at Surf and Swim (440 West Oates Road)
