City marshals issue parking tickets

Apr. 24, 2021

The Garland City Marshal’s Office issues tickets for parking violations. You can pay for your tickets online. Problems in neighborhoods are the most frequent source of resident complaints to the city. In the past, parking tickets were treated like traffic tickets – Class C misdemeanors with high fines and difficult enforcement procedures.

In 2019, the Garland City Council approved a program for administrative enforcement of parking ordinances throughout the city. A first offense carries a $25 fine, a second offense will be $50 and all subsequent offenses will be $75.

These are some of the most common violations:

  • Parking on an unimproved surface
  • Parking on a sidewalk
  • Parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk or intersection
  • Parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant
  • Parking within 30 feet of an intersection control device
  • Blocking a driveway or traffic in an alley

The neighborhood enforcement process will also address illegally parked commercial and oversized vehicles.

Parking tickets may be disputed. You must attend a hearing on or before the hearing date. Hearings take place at the Parking Hearings Office at the Garland Municipal Court. If you do not want to attend the hearing on the hearing date, you may appear at the Parking Hearings Office on the first or third Monday or Wednesday of each month. You will be given a hearing even if it is not your hearing date, although people with a scheduled hearing that date will receive first priority. If you do not attend a hearing on or before your hearing date, you will be presumed not to contest liability for the citation.

Marshals enforce proactively and respond to complaints. To report a violation, use Garland eAssist, which is available at GarlandTX.gov or as an app through Google Play and Apple.

IMPORTANT – You will NOT receive an email notification to pay your ticket. All violation notices will be sent by regular mail and posted on the vehicle.
