Oct. 17, 2023

The city of Garland’s Public & Media Relations team recently earned national recognition for excellence in video programming.

The National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) announced the winners of its 2023 programming awards in October in Long Beach, California. Garland’s team earned three first-place trophies and one third-place trophy at the Operating Budget Under $350,000 competition level.

The awards honor excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local government agencies. There were more than 950 entries from local governments across the country.

In the Event/Program Promotion category, “Space” earned the Award of Excellence and highlighted the Garland and Beyond exhibit on display at City Hall from May through September this year.

The team earned the Award of Excellence in the Public Service Announcement category for “eAssist & The 8Bit Pothole,” a fun and imaginative video about how residents can report potholes and other issues using Garland eAssist.

“The Painter” received the Award of Excellence in the Arts and Entertainment category. “The Painter” features the artist who painted the giant outdoor mural in Garland’s medical district.

Finally, in the Public Safety category, “Build a Kit” won the Award of Distinction for shining a light on how to be prepared for emergencies.

Congratulations to Dan Bach, Nick Gibson, Pedro Hernandez and the rest of the team, and to the city departments that participated in these award-winning productions.
