Habitat for Humanity of Greater Garland had 15 additional volunteers during spring break when students from Minnesota State University Mankato came to town to lend a hand. The students were participating in an alternative spring break project which included giving back to a community in need.
They worked in tornado affected areas as well as on a Habitat for Humanity home. The students also visited Patriot Paws in Rockwall Wednesday afternoon and helped serve a meal to the homeless with the Matthew 25:40 Project Thursday night.
They stayed at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and Father JD Brown organized meals for them. Cots were borrowed from Mike Bencheck at the Matthew 25:40 Project and Pastor Bob Couch at First Baptist Church in Garland arranged for the students to use the showers at the McDonald Activity Center all week.
“We are thrilled that these organizations have come together to help these students have a meaningful spring break experience,” said Beth Leos, director of development for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Garland.
