One door opens and another door closes, as the saying goes. And so it goes with gifts and donations. And a legacy of hope and health lives on.
“I am pleased to announce a generous donation by the Garland Health Care Auxiliary to Hope Clinic Garland,” Tena Yeary, executive director of Hope Clinic, said. “Due to the closing of Baylor Scott & White Garland Hospital, the auxiliary has chosen Hope Clinic to receive the auxiliary’s final donation.”
The Garland Health Care Auxiliary has been a part of the Garland health care scene since its beginnings in 1959. Over the years, the group has provided support to the staff, patients and hospital community. With the recent closing of the Garland hospital in February, this group of volunteers wanted to give one final gift to the community.
“We were looking for a cause or organization whose mission, purpose and heart, most closely resembled ours,” said Jan Temple, president of the auxiliary. “Hope Clinic’s mission is most akin to ours and allowed the heart of the Auxiliary to live on in the Garland community.”
This donation was celebrated with a reception at the clinic Monday, March 19, at 10 a.m. At that time, the auxiliary presented Hope Clinic with the check representing this gift. Light refreshments will be served.
Operational since 2002, Hope Clinic Garland is a 501(C) (3) nonprofit corporation providing primary health care to the under-served and uninsured residents of Garland. Its network of both paid and volunteer health care professionals and community advocates realized over 8,000 patient visits in 2017. The clnic’s partnership with the community, local faith-based organizations and regional health care organizations provide help and hope to those who might not otherwise have either.
