Council deliberates proposed CIP

Garland City Council members and Mayor Douglas Athas have heard presentations from city departments regarding proposed capital improvement plan amounts.

The total proposed 2016 CIP amount is $261,644,000 which is a 35.7 percent increase over 2015 total. No property tax rate increase is expected for funding of the CIP. The breakdown by department is below:

Parks    $7,252,000

Granger Recreation Center renovations

Audubon and Winters Soccer Complex fencing

Pedestrian/bicycle bridges at Duck Creek

Bronze sculpture at Granville Arts Center

Continuation of Audubon Recreation Center expansion, dog park, skate park and Windsurf Bay Park

Park parking lot improvements, trail development, miscellaneous improvements

Street/Transportation     $39,468,000

Work to begin on projects including: Oates Road – Broadway to Rosehill; Shiloh Road – IH 635 to Kingsley; Brand Road – SH 190 to Muirfield; Fifth Street – Miller to Kingsley; Pleasant Valley Road bridge

Design work for Holford Road – SH 190 to Campbell, Holford Road – Arapaho to SH 190 and Bobtown Road – Kelso to Barnes Bridge.

Road closure gates and signage for flood-prone areas

Public hearings on the CIP will be held Feb. 2 and Feb. 16, both at 7 p.m. The City Council will discuss the plan at the Feb. 15 work session. Adoption is scheduled for Feb. 16 after the public hearing.
