District 9-6A football recap: Oct. 22-23

The Mustangs, Eagles, Colonels and Rangers enjoyed wins this week. Both the Wylie Pirates and Rowlett Eagles got to play their first 9-6A district games after delays caused by the pandemic.

 

Mustangs get win over Owls

 

The Sachse Mustangs defeated the Garland Owls Thursday, Oct. 22, at Williams Stadium. The final score was 49-27.

rushing TDs and collected 113 yards on the ground. Orji also connected with Tyler Williams and Brian Okoye for scores.

 

Okoye ran for 110 yards on the game. Orji ended the night at 16-26 for 267 yards. Williams collected 152 yards in seven catches.

 

Owls’ quarterback Cergio Perez connected with Charles Allen for a score and scored two rushing TDs. Jayshon Powers also scored for the Owls and led the team in rushing with 64 yards.

 

Eagles defeat Raiders

 

The Rowlett Eagles got a 45-14 win over the North Garland Raiders Thursday, Oct. 22, at Homer B. Johnson Stadium.

 

Colton Yarborough carried the ball eight times for 103 yards and three TDs. D’Wonyae Newton had 11 carries for 113 yards and two scores. Quarterback Tre Carr connected with Ernest Thomas for a score

 

Isaiah DeLeon scored the Raiders’ two TD on passes from QB Nathan Pena. Pena ended the game at 3-13 for 168 yards.

 

NFHS Rangers get win over LCHS Patriots

The Rangers defeated the Patriots by a score of 24-10 Friday, Oct. 23, at Williams Stadium.

Ja’Hari Lee scored a TD for the Rangers and collected 99 yards on 12 carries on the game. Austin Valdez also got a rushing touchdown for the Rangers. The defense also added a score for the Rangers on an interception return by Tristan Johnson.

 

Patriots’ QB Michael Hierro connected with Ry’Keilan Warthsaw on a 24-yard pass reception for a TD. Camar Wheaton carried the ball 22 times for 79 yards on the night.

 

Colonels get 35-30 win over Pirates

 

The South Garland Colonels got a victory over the Wylie Pirates Friday, Oct. 23, at Homer B. Johnson Stadium.

 

The Colonels’ quarterback passed for two TDs, one to Tyreon Key and the other to Jacob Crim. Brown also rushed for two scores. Khaydarius Hart added at defensive TD when he got a 76-yard interception return.

 

Brown ended the night at 11-23 with 133 yards. Key caught seven passes for 116 yards.
