District 9-6A playoff-bound football teams

The Owls secured the district 9-6A title this week with a win over the Titans. The Mustangs took second place in the district. The Rangers took third and the Raiders came in fourth. Each of these teams will play in the bi-district round of the playoffs next week.

Owls 70 – Titans 14

The Garland Owls (10-0, 7-0) ended an undefeated season and took the 9-6A district title with a 70-14 win over the South Garland Titans (0-10, 0-7) Friday, Nov. 5, at Williams Stadium. The Owls put together 464 total yards of offense, 269 yards rushing and 195 in the air. Quarterback Cergio Perez was 12-16 (75%) on the game with four touchdowns. Perez also increased his season touchdown total to 52. Aaron King, Jordan Hudson, Ellis Rogers and Charles Allen each caught a TD pass. Keyunte King had six carries for 113 yards and three TDs and Jayshon Powers added two more scores. The GHS defense had five interceptions and a blocked punt for a TD. They also recovered two of four SGHS fumbles.

Coaches’ picks for Offensive Players of the Week were Keyuntae King and Pedro Aguilar. For Defensive Players of the Week the coaches’ choices were Michael Curtis Landen and Tim Muhammad. For Special Teams Playesr of the Week, they named Michael Curtis Landon, Pedro Orozco and O’Shea Johnson.

Titans’ QB Jaden Holland passed for 98 yards and two TDs. Both were caught by Tyreon Key who had 113 yards in pass receptions. QB Jimmy Shelly threw for 66 yards.

The Owls will go up against Tyler Legacy HS in the bi-district round of the playoffs Friday, Nov. 12, at Garland’s Williams Stadiums.

Mustangs 21 – Rangers 20

The Sachse Mustangs (7-3, 6-1) took second place in district 9-6A in their game against the Naaman Forest Rangers Friday, Nov. 5, at Garland’s Homer B. Johnson Stadium. Quarterback Alex Orji scored two rushing TDs for the Mustangs and rushed for 86 yards. The Sachse defense added a 39-yard interception return for a score. Luke Keefer, who was recognized by the coaching staff for his skill, had 25 carries for 113 yards.

The coaches also recognized offensive lineman Josh Trammel. On defense, they recognized Jaydon Gibbs and for skill, they recognized Ivory Chester. Defensive MVPs were Albion Krasniqi and Courtland Lemar. Jhett Creel was recognized on special teams.

The Naaman Forest Rangers (5-2, 5-2) secured third place in district 9-6A. They scored on a QB Tray Walton pass to Mike Deluna who had three catches for 66 yards. Kingsley Bennett, who ran for 255 yards on 17 carries, scored twice.

The Mustangs will play Mesquite HS Friday, Nov. 12, at Garland’s Homer B. Johnson Stadium in the bi-district round of the playoffs.

The Rangers, third in district 9-6A will face Rockwall-Heath in the bi-district round Friday, Nov. 12, at Rockwall’s Wilkerson Sanders Memorial Stadium.

Raiders 30 – Wylie 14

The North Garland Raiders (6-4, 3-4) defeated the Wylie Pirates (3-7, 3-4) Friday, Nov. 5, at Wylie ISD Stadium. NGHS quarterback Godspower Nwawuihe ended the game at 7-11 for 147 yards and a touchdown caught by De’Aundre Johnson. Nwawuihe also rushed for 242 yards and two scores. Jaden Davis, who had 21 carries for 119 yards also scored a TD. The Raiders also hit a 32-yard field goal.

Wylie’s QB Issac Phe ended the game at 17-28 for 232 yards and two TDs. Adrian Bryant and Blake Fuller caught the touchdown passes.

The North Garland Raiders finished fourth in district 9-6A and will play Rockwall HS Thursday, Nov. 11, at Rockwall’s Wilkerson Sanders Memorial Stadium.

Patriots 19 – Eagles 16

The Lakeview Centennial Patriots (5-5, 2-5) got a 19-16 win over the Rowlett Eagles (2-8, 2-5) Thursday, Nov. 4, the Garland’s HBJ Stadium.

LCHS quarterback Jonathan Hester II threw for 159 yards and two TDs. Caylon Montgomery and Savion Hunter each caught a TD pass. Montgomery had four receptions for 85 yards. Hester also rushed for a score and had 16 carries for 86 yards.

Eagles’ QB James Okolo threw 125 yards and a touchdown that was caught by Corey Kirkling. Okolo also rushed for a TD. The Eagles also added two points with a safety.
