Each year, the Dallas Morning News selects all-area high school football teams – first teams, second teams and honorable mention for both offense and defense.
Several Garland ISD athletes were chosen.
Garland Owls’ senior wide receiver Jordan Hudson (photo above) was chosen for the First Team Offense. According to the DMN, Hudson led the Dallas-area UIL players with 22 touchdown catches. And, he caught 67 passes for 1,141 yards. His list of scores included a 99-yard touchdown at the beginning of the football season.
They also select an honorable mention team because there are m
ore deserving players than there are spots on the first and second teams.
According to their announcement article, “Every year, there are a lot of talented players who get left off The Dallas Morning News’ All-Area team. This year was no different. There are only so many spots available on the team, and many deserving players can’t be recognized.”
Garland ISD athletes who earned honorable mention honors are:
Garland Owls’ quarterback Cergio Perez – had 57 touchdown passes and led his team to an undefeated regular season. He was third in the Dallas area in passing yards with 3,625.
Garland Owls’ defensive back Chauncey Carter – had eight interceptions and made 24 solo tackles (42 total) and broke up six passes.
Rowlett Eagles’ defensive lineman Micheal Ibukun-Okeyode – blocked six kicks (PATs and field goals), made71 tackles–52 solo tackles and 13 for loss and caused seven fumbles. He also had 5.5 sacks and recovered two fumbles.
